Post-Fire Hazards

Axcess Industries realizes that once a fire is put out, you may want to sit back and take a break. However, just because the flames are gone does not mean that are totally safe. That is because there are several potential hazards that could still be lurking. SafetyEd has put together a few tips for you to think about before you enter an area after a fire has been put out:

· Do not run when entering an area after a fire so you do not slip and fall on any extinguishing fluid.

· Cartons, boxes, or other containers can become damaged or weakened when due to the fire. So, beware of these items to make sure they do not fall on top of you and cause injury.

· The heat from a fire can cause pressure to build up inside of canisters and cylinders that contain compressed gases or some liquids. So, let them cool off before handling them.

· Some embers may continue to smolder for a while after a fire. So be sure to look closely for hot coals and cool them off with water or an extinguishing media when you find them.

· Burning materials can create hazardous gases, such as carbon monoxide. Make sure the area where the fire was is well ventilated before you go back in to inspect or clean up.

Fires can still be very dangerous even after they are put out. Always make sure to run through SafetyEd’s check list before you enter an area after a fire. Stay smart and stay safe out there!
