SafetyEd Preserving Eyes

Many things are taken for granted in your daily life, don’t let your vision be one of them. As you are driving home take notice of your gift of sight. It is a wonderful thing to be able to see and experience colors and beautiful moments that happen in your surroundings. By taking the correct precautions to preserve your vision loss of sight should be out of the picture.

A recent article in Safety & Health states that “everyday approximately 1000 eye injuries occur in the U.S. and OSHA estimates that 90 percent of eye injuries are preventable through the proper use of safety eye wear. This tells us that many people are not following the needed safety precautions set in place. Some actions that may cause these eye injuries are…

  • Wood working, hammering, and chiseling since these actions can lead to a different size array of fragments to fly in the air and into the eyes.
  • Electric welding, furnace tending, and any other operation that may include being in close quarters to radiating energy or intense heat.
  • Spraying, sanding, mental working, paint and spot welding may all cause dust fragments or fumes to become airborne and land in the eye.

Your eyesight is something that could make life a lot harder if you had to do without. If you are in an area that exposes you to eye hazards be sure to wear your eye protection.
